Recognising and celebrating the achievements of the region's best new business that has been in operation for less than two years as of 31st March, 2011.

UCOL is a large, bright regional polytechnic, with three campuses in the lower central North Island, award winning student support services and close links with industries and communities.

More than 10,000 students study at our campuses in Whanganui, Palmerston North and Masterton, 60 per cent aged under 30. We provide excellent, high tech facilities, including laptops and wireless internet access. Like everything we do, it’s about helping our students succeed in their chosen fields.

Our Whanganui UCOL campus is named Matapihi ki te Ao, which means Window of Opportunity to the World –chosen by Whanganui iwi because it encompasses all people and reflects the opportunities education can bring.

The campus is one of New Zealand’s newest and provides an unparalleled opportunity to study in state-of- the-art facilities, in a mix of architecturally designed or restored heritage buildings, constructed with environmentally friendly and sustainable materials.

UCOL offers a wide range of vocational programmes, including certificates, diplomas and Bachelor and Masters degrees: Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Applied Visual Imaging, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design, Bachelor of Fashion, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Imaging), Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, and certificates and diplomas in Trades, Motorsport, Culinary Arts, Beauty, Hairdressing, Engineering, Performing Arts and Music, and a range of Business and Computing programmes.

UCOL is a founding partner in the Le Cordon Bleu NZ Institute in Wellington for delivery of certificates, diplomas and degrees.

We get regular input from business and industry to stay up-to-date with the needs of employers. We also partner with industry leaders, including Toyota New Zealand, global energy management experts Schneider Electrics and many others, to strengthen our programmes and encourage employment for our graduates. A survey showed 84 per cent
of our graduates were employed or doing more study within six months of completing.
