contribution to the community award - Whanganui Community Foundation

This award is very special as it recognizes not what we gain but what we give. The old adage we reap what we sow; and business can give so much back to the community in terms of serving on community organisations, gifting products and services to the deserving and supporting worthy causes. This culture is at the very essence of our business philosophy and we are grateful to the Whanganui Community Foundation for recognizing this vital ingredient in business .

micro business excellence award - ComputerCare NZ Ltd

Entering the Business Awards gave me the opportunity to get the best overview of my business. Particularily where it had come from and the direction it now needs to continue on to expand, service the client's needs and diversify. I consider entering the awards the best " free business tool" offered to Wanganui businesses, small and large. I will definitely enter again. Whilst winning was fantastic I will be doing so to monitor my progress of the plans I now have in place.

The team at Hardwired Industries has been overwhelm by the support and acknowledge of the greater Wanganui region since our recent win at the Wanganui Security & Electrical Business Awards. Our success in picking up the Service Business and Importing Excellence Award was a true testament of the time we all have put into the business and also into our entry for the awards. Since receiving the award we have loved having all the extra publicity and media exposure and are hoping this will continue to grow our business through these tough economic times. Although this is quite an involved process it has been well worth it and we look forward to entering next year's awards and we are really hoping to improve our trophy tally!

With Simply Skin Day Spa making a premises change after 11 years and purchasing its own building I had decided that this was the year we would enter the Business Awards. We felt we had a story to tell and we had changed considerably as a business as the business grew and evolved. For me the application process was invaluable as I hadn't realized how many great systems and strategies we had in place that we followed every day and how this set us apart from the rest. I involved my staff in some of the application and asked for their thoughts and feedback. I thoroughly enjoyed the judges interview and their feedback which we have implicated . The awards night was wonderful. On the night we won the Innovation Award and the Leisure and Tourism Award. This has been amazing and given all the clients and staff confirmation that we have been recognized as a top class business and we have certainly had great publicity following. I have every intention to enter again when the timing is right.

retail excellence award - Wanganui Chamber of Commerce

Our entry into the 2010 Wanganui Security & Electrical Business Awards was motivated by a desire to recognize and document where the business has come from, where it has evolved as a result of this long history and where we aim to be in the future.

The process involved in preparing the entry made us analyse what makes the business tick and now we can see more clearly the factors that have contributed to the success of the business. Consequently, we can now build on these successful attributes and improve the business. The Wanganui Security & Electrical Business Awards have given us a new perspective on our business and given us the motivation and confidence to reach for new goals in the future.

For us, entering the Wanganui Security & Electrical Business Awards was a fantastic learning experience. It was great to step back and look at the progress we've made, and to analyze our industry, business processes, and share our plans for growth with the Massey University Judges. Their feedback and business expertise were invaluable. Winning 'Best Emerging Business' was truly amazing and is a credit to our dedicated staff, and supportive families and community. Q-West Boat Builders - ACC Workplace Safety Award 2009
To be quite honest, entering the Massey University Wanganui Business Awards initially seemed a rather daunting task for us and a huge distraction from our core business. In retrospect however, I am very pleased to say that the effort was very well worth it and our business has benefitted significantly as a result of learning so much more about how and why we do things and where we are going. Although we didn't enter to win the ACC Workplace Safety Award, it turned out that it was an area we did very well and we were recognised for it which was very humbling expecially given the calibre of all who had entered.
To sum it up, the entry process provides business owners and managers with a platform to be able to look at their operation in as much or as little detail as they like. Importantly it provides essential and valuable knowledge and it's basically free.

New World Wanganui - Training For You Management Excellent Award 2009 & Wanganui Chamber of Commerce Retail Excellence Award 2009
The benefits for entering the Massey University Wanganui Business Awards went well beyond the recognition of receiving a prize for New World Wanganui. It allowed me to stand back and take a 360 degree look at my business and its processes, to see where we've come from and where we're going. This was reward in itself.

Micro Business Excellence Award 2009
For me, entering the Business Awards was about taking the time, with respected business professionals to focus entirely on my business. Where we had come from, where we were going and most importantly, how we were going to get there. It's not all about the award, it's about what you do with the insights and the info discussed. Before last years award was announced I had already implemented one of the ideas discussed at my meeting with the judges (who are not at all scary!) and to this day it has continued to create revenue. Entering the Massey University Business Awards was definitely one of the best decisions I made in 2009, I'm going to make the same great decision in 2010.

The entry process, it can be quite challenging to complete, but worth the effort, as it opens up your ideas about your business. The benefits received from entering, recognition for my business and made people more aware of what small businesses can actually do and achieve. Winning the Whanganui Community Foundation - Contribution to the Community Award shows that you don't have to be a big business to achieve.

Wanganui Security Services Ltd - Ministry of Social Development Innovative Award 2009 & Whanganui UCOL Service Business & Importing Excellence Award 2009
Wanganui Security initally entered the awards to have the business practices and procedures scrutinized by the expertise and business acumen provided by the Massey University judges. It turned out to be more than this. For the first time ever, we really looked at the inner mechanics that drove the business and learned more than we could have imagined. The judges feedback told us what we needed to know to take the business to the next level. Four times category winner, I recommend entering the business awards to all who are serious about their business. It really is a tool for growth.
