How often have you heard “A good day’s work won’t hurt you.” When you look at the statistics of injuries and death in the workplace, maybe the catch-cry for this generation should be “A good day’s work shouldn’t hurt you.”
Last year 40,000 people were moderately to seriously injured in the workplace and 106 people died.
Fewer injuries mean less money spent on medical and rehabilitation services and on earnings-related compensation, which in turn leads to lower levies for individuals and businesses.
Fewer injuries translate into higher work productivity and a stronger economy.
Most important, an injury is always personal. Preventing just one injury spares one person and their family and friends unnecessary pain, trauma and suffering.
This is why ACC’s prime focus is on injury prevention and why ACC is committed to assisting employers and employees to manage risks and prevent injuries in the workplace.
As part of this commitment we acknowledge excellent performance by our sponsorship of the ACC Workplace Safety Award. |
